Role overview:

The Senior Cloud Engineer (Networking) is responsible for designing, implementing and managing cloud-based infrastructure and networking solutions, primarily on AWS. This role demands expertise in both cloud technologies and traditional networking, ensuring the performance, scalability and security of the organization’s hybrid infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience with both cloud environments and on-premises networking solutions, collaborating across teams to meet business goals and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cloud architecture and networking design:

- Design, implement and manage secure, scalable and cost-effective AWS cloud architectures.

- Develop architectural blueprints and technical documentation for hybrid network and cloud solutions, including VPC, Subnets, VPN and Direct Connect.

- Integrate cloud and on-premise networking infrastructures, including firewalls, load balancers and routing protocols.

2. Infrastructure and networking management:

- Configure and manage on-premise network devices including firewalls, switches, load balancers and VPNs to support hybrid cloud environments.

- Optimize both cloud and network resource usage to enhance performance and minimize costs.

- Ensure high availability and reliability across cloud and on-premise infrastructures.

3. Security and compliance:

- Implement security best practices for both AWS and network environments, including firewalls, IAM, Security Groups and monitoring tools.

- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for cloud and network infrastructures.

4. Automation and DevOps:

- Automate network and cloud infrastructure using tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation and Jenkins.

- Implement CI/CD pipelines to streamline cloud and network deployments.

5. Performance monitoring and optimization:

- Continuously monitor the performance of both cloud and network infrastructures, troubleshooting and resolving performance issues.

- Optimize hybrid infrastructures for speed, efficiency and reliability.

6. Disaster recovery and backup:

- Design and implement disaster recovery and backup solutions for hybrid environments, including cross-region replication and backup strategies.

- Regularly test and update disaster recovery plans.

7. Collaboration and team leadership:

- Work closely with development, operations and security teams to design and implement hybrid cloud and networking solutions.

- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the team.

8. Documentation and process improvement:

- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation of cloud architectures, networking configurations and operational procedures.

- Continuously assess and improve processes to align with emerging technologies and best practices.

Required skills and competencies:

• AWS Core services: Deep knowledge of AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch and Direct Connect.
• Networking expertise: Strong experience in managing firewalls, switches, VPNs and load balancers, as well as AWS networking components such as VPC, Route Tables, NAT Gateways and VPN Peering.
• Cloud and network security: Expertise in AWS and on-premise security, including IAM, Security Groups, NACLs, firewalls and monitoring tools.
• Automation and IaC: Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• DevOps: Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline.
• Monitoring and logging: Proficiency in tools like CloudWatch, Graylog, ELK, Splunk, New Relic, Orion, SolarWinds, PRTG
• Disaster recovery and backup: Proven experience in designing and implementing disaster recovery strategies across hybrid environments.
• Certifications: AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent.

Experience requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering and networking roles, with a focus on AWS and hybrid environments.
• Strong knowledge of dynamic routing and tunneling protocols.
• Experience in both enterprise network management and cloud infrastructure design.
